ECLSO Congress

Welcome on the ECLSO website

Dear members of ECLSO, dear friends,

This start of a wonderful New Year gives us the opportunity to wish you all the best, lots of success and a good health.

At the same time, we have the honour to introduce to you the new ECLSO Praesidium. Some functions have changed. After many years of devoted service as President of our contact lens society for ophthalmologists, Dr René Mély has become Past President. Thanks to you, René, ECLSO has remained true to its mission and organised plenty of educational sessions and congresses. I, myself, Dr Carina Koppen, will succeed him as President, and my function as Secretary-General will be filled by Dr Ömür Uçakhan-Gunduz. Dr Ursula Vogt continues her good work as Treasurer, Dr Andrena McElvanney and Dr Ebru Toker are the Vice-Presidents, whereas Dr Cornelius Berzas remains Vorstand.

From left to right: Dr Ömür Uçakhan, Secretary-General; Dr René Mély, Past President; Dr Andrena McElvanney, Vice-President;
Dr Carina Koppen, President; Dr Ebru Toker, Vice-President; Dr Cornelius Berzas, Vorstand; Dr Ursula Vogt, Treasurer

This whole team pledges to build further on the achievements of their predecessors in trying to create platforms for information exchange between top ranking ophthalmologists and contact lens specialists. But this information transmission can only work if you, our ECLSO members, give us feedback about your needs and experience.

Important to know is that ECLSO will organise a full congress every other year, so the next full congress will be in 2020. We will keep you updated on the venue and programme.

In the meantime, ECLSO will organise a Symposium within the framework of the SOE congress in Nice (June 13th to 16th, 2019). Our Symposium is titled “Contact Lenses and Myopia Control” and will be organised on Saturday June 15th from 8 until 9.30 am.

“The growing prevalence of myopia”, Carina Koppen, Belgium
“Genetic and environmental risk factors in myopic development and progression”, Andrena McElvanney, United Kingdom
“Orthokeratology: how does it work? How effective is it?”, Yoram Biger, Israel
“The role of multifocal soft contact lenses in myopia control”, Adriana Stanila, Romania
“Current concepts in the use of atropine in myopia control”, René Mély, France
“What should we do when a myopic child walks in?”, Ömür Uçakhan-Gunduz.

ECLSO warmly invites you to attend these lectures. In order to do so you will have to register for SOE.

The yearly General Assembly will be organised on June 15th, 2019, at 4 pm, at the Hotel Le Saint Paul, 29, Boulevard Franck Pilatte, 06300 Nice, about 3km away from the SOE major congress venue. We would appreciate your presence there: it is an occasion for communication and interaction.

You are very welcome to send us your suggestions and ideas. From our side, we promise to keep you informed through this website and by e-mail. May we therefore ask you to inform us of your recent e-mail address? It is sufficient to send an e-mail to our Secretary-General, at, mentioning “ECLSO member”.
